If you could hang out with any movie character for a day, whom would you choose as your sidekick?

Arthur from the movie The Holiday. I think he'd be a real "kick" to hang around with!

You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their lives, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute! Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating THAT PERSON? Since when?" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! [Or don't, or post in comments, as you like.] Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-word answers seldom help anyone out.

FIRST NAME: Gayle...well, that was easy to do! ;)

AGE: 37

LOCATION: West Sacramento, CA

OCCUPATION: Commercial Traffic and Voice Captioning

PARTNER: Karl - often referred to as "Bear" here (I really don't call him that in real life, only here which is odd as I gave him the nickname!)

KIDS: None, yet! - If it weren't for the "pets" section below, I'd start listing my kitties/kiddies.

BROTHERS/SISTERS: Three older sisters: Nora who is AWOL; Jan, who's divorced and living with my Mom, is doing well; and Lynn who lives 5 minutes from me and widowed these past three years, is also doing well. I'm very proud of Jan and Lynn, for they went through some pretty tough times these past three years, but I think they have come out the better for their trials. :)

PETS: 4 cats - Lao-hu (19/tabby), Tule (12/tortie), B.B. (4/black), and Tanner (5/orange/white). Technically the first two are Bear's and the last two are mine, but for some reason the two boys (Lau & Tan) have migrated to me and the two girls cling to Bear. Actually, all the cats seem to head straight to Bear (we call him the "Pussy magnet"); the cats come to me if Bear's not home. ;)

3 THINGS GOING ON IN MY LIFE:

1. Job: Had been in flux most of the year, starting last December. I kind of got talked into taking my old job back recently and, though it is good to be full-time again, it's debatable if it's good I'm doing my old job again. Only time will tell. I do get to do some Voice Captioning on the side, but not as much as I'd like. That and my Captioning boss sort of keep me from going crazy in my old (new) job. ;) The good part is, with Bear's job in a bit of flux, I am able to help him care for our "life together" again (ie. pay bills, sign him under my insurance, cover my own personal costs, etc). Still, life is unpredictable and we'll see where this all goes...

2. Art: I've spent a lot of this year drawing and less socializing (I'm a bad person in that respect). There has been so much inside me aching to come out but I was/am a rather unconfident artist, so much of it has stayed locked up for years and years, occassionally coming out in small spurts. This year I've worked at letting my art come out, by just drawing what's on my mind, setting up goals and projects, entering contests, and being more active on my DeviantArt site. I'm proud to say I've done over 70 drawings/paintings/crafts this year, and still working on more! I'm excited to have worked up this part of myself and hope to continue to gain more confidence in putting the pencil/pen/brush to the paper, that much quicker, and letting my imagination and creativity flow out that much easier! ^-^

3. Baggage: I've spent a good part of the last two years working through tons and tons of emotional baggage, stuff as old as the late nineties. It's been a very difficult road, with Bear having to deal with a great deal of the brunt of it. Still, he has proven himself time and again to be the man for the job and an excellent partner for me. I find myself thinking of past hurts and not being as angry as I was, or confused. Songs that I once associated with hurtful memories do not make me cry or change the station anymore. And, ingeneral, not being able to remember the last time I've really "cried" is a good thing (when one considers I used to cry and be miserable many times a week and could barely remember the last "good day" says a lot about the sort of position I had let myself be cornered into). So as time progresses, I have bad stuff come up, but instead of holding onto the pain, I find they sort of eventually work themselves into oblivion. I find myself having better "days" and, even though i'm still a bit "reclusive", I am feeling "lighter" of my emotional baggage and am able to laugh and smile easier. Things, though not completely great, are good in this area, for now. Oh, I'm sure something will pop up, I'll freak, cry, and have to deal with it, but i don't fear it so much now. Now, I feel a bit stronger. Now, I feel like I'm getting to know myself and finding who "me" is. It's still a long journey, but it doesn't feel impossible anymore. :)

PARENTS: Well, it'll be three years in January since my father passed away. It still seems weird that he is gone, and yet, the hurt is finally passing. My mother is doing pretty well. I think the harder times were that first year, but with the exception of health issues due to age, she is doing pretty well. Still active with her church and still bowling (though that was one of the toughest things for her to go back to since it was something she did with my dad). I think with Jan living with her, the healing process went a bit smoother. She is a strong woman and, though we have our differences, I hope I do half as well as she and my sister Lynn did if the day comes that Bear should leave before me.

CLOSE FRIENDS: Some days I feel like I don't know who my "close friends" are anymore. People come and go; lives take different paths, and though I still have many friends, I don't feel super close to anyone. if a good friend needs help, they know I will do what I can to help them, but after a couple of debacles with friends who I was close to and lost in one fashion or another, I feel less willing to be close to anyone. Definte gun-shyness in this area. The only person I truly confide in is Bear; he has become my best friend ingeneral, which is good, but I do miss others, i just feel a bit awkward with myself that I'm a bit uncomfortable around my friends now. Getting reaquainted with who I am has sort of left me feeling a bit stranded when it comes to friends. As well as working on myself, I really need to work on the friends part too. Maybe that will be my goal for next year, since figuring out "myself" was one of the ones for this year.

***Hope this helped to get to know me again...at the very least, you know what's on my mind these days.. ;)

A quicky update [Dec. 5th, 2009|03:30 pm]

jijikit
[mood | headachey]

So here's the scoop:

I took the open full-time position in the Traffic department that I've been working part-time in while working part-time in Voice Captioning. So I'm now employed full-time, at my old job; literally the one I left when I finished Vet Tech School. Strange how things go in circles, but I understand my strengths now and maybe it'll be okay this time around. And I still get to keep up my voice captioning, though it will be on a limited basis (or until my boss is able to pull some people up to full time in his department). I miss doing it already even if I get to do it three days a week.

The only down side of Traffic is that we're down a person still. The girl I was doing maternity leave for has decided to leave permanently. So, I'm still doing her work and learning some of the stuff I will be doing in the new job, and captioning the 4p. It makes me tired, and the tiredness doesn't promote my creative side...so my art has been getting less productive, which makes me sad...

Still, I've been spending a lot of free time making Christmas presents (many that need to be done within the next week). Still, I'm being creative and it's good; I don't want to let my art side slide into non-existence ever again.

So, if I'm so busy, why am I writing now? I'm just taking a small break. I've been sewing, painting, and drawing since around 8am this morning...and I've been nursing a week-long headache (complete with dizzy-spells). I'm actually about to take a nap before Bear drags me out to go Christmas shopping. I'm glad I had gotten a head start on gifts earlier this year when I was unemployed, but it is nice to be able to have financial stability too.

And after three weeks of computer website gliches, I've finally got myself and Bear signed up for medical insurance under me. HURRAY! (since we've both been paying out the butt-ass-crack for out own insurances this year!) It's nice to know my working is helping him even more than before!

Well, that's it as far as updates go.

Oh, and if any of you are feeling art-curious, I could sure use some critiquing on my art creations. Some I feel good about and others, well, eh. In any case, if you got any "yays" and "nays" to send my way, I'd greatly appreciate it! My Gallery

I'll try to write sooner. Take care all!
